Difference between chimichanga and burrito

No discussion on Mexican food would be complete without the mention of chimichanga vs flauta. These are both very popular dishes, and this particular choice may come down to personal preference. What is in a chimichanga is definitely a factor for me, whereas what is in a flauta will probably be a point of debate for you.

Both of these street food creations use a spicy sauce or salsa as their main ingredient. There are some similarities between the two though. Both employ dried chilli powder (also known as chimichanga powder), along with red or green sauces of some sort. I prefer the spicy sauces myself, but you may like them better or worse. The important thing to remember about either of these dishes though is that they are both made with beef, and both are packed with healthful fats.

The way that they are made in Mexico is quite unique, and they can either be prepared as a hot dog or sandwich filling, or used as an open faced chimichanga. The fillings are usually beef, chicken, or shrimp, and they can be served with either mild or hot sauce. The hot sauce used in a chimichanga can be spicy, mild, or just a mild to moderate amount of heat. There are also versions which include pulled pork filling, and flautas which are simply refried beans (I love them). The choice is yours.

One of the biggest similarities between a chimichanga vs flauta is the filling. Both consist of beef, chicken, or shrimp, and are usually served with either corn tortillas, or wheat tortillas. The reason the fillings are so similar is because this is the traditional style of preparation for this type of Mexican cuisine. In addition, the ingredients used in a chimichanga are also what are used in Mexican burritos, and they are also what are most commonly used in all Mexican cuisine.

Another similarity between the chimichanga vs migas is that they both usually have a chimichanga flour base. Whether you pick up a brick and mortar establishment, or shop online, both have a basic foundation of flour, salt, water, corn meal, cheese, onion, chili powder, oregano, and other seasonings. The main difference between the two being that whereas most Mexican food preparation requires oil, it is not used in chimichanga.

If you look at the nutritional facts of both the chimichanga vs flautas, you will find that the overall calories are very close. The main difference comes from how much fat is included in each dish. A true fajita has between 22 and 30 calories, whereas a chimichanga usually has a little less. It is because of this, chimichas are usually served cold. On the other hand, a fajita can be served hot if you so desire.

One important thing to note about the chimichanga vs enchilada is that the enchilada dish is spicier than a chimichanga. If you are a person who is health conscious, then this probably isn't going to affect you. However, those with a more delicate appetite may wish to skip the mild versions of both the ceviche and the chimichanga altogether. Both of these dishes are extremely popular, and it just seems as though they have been associated with Mexican restaurants specifically.

If you haven't tried either of these delicious ceviche-style creations, you really should give them a try. Both are extremely healthy and are a welcome change from the traditional, calorie ridden burritos and taco bell tacos that many American consumers have grown used to. While they are not the healthiest options on the market, they certainly are some of the tastiest tasting foods you will eat. For an extra kick, pair one of these burritos with some nice fresh guacamole for a satisfying lunch or dinner. For an extra boost of spice, consider serving a chimichanga with some steamed queso.
